Today we left Viganj and set off to Montenegro. We stopped and took a couple of photos of Dubrovnik and then drove on towards the border.
We were getting tired and hungry when we saw a nice roadsign with a pretty picture of a restaurant. It was a beautiful old mill with fish ponds and fires for roasting lamb. We sat under an awning of cool leaves and listened to the river. We had a leisurely lunch and then got to the border. Not a long wait and then we were out of the EU and in Montenegro.
Rebecca West said of the Montenegrans that the men all aspired to be heroes. The remainder of this trait displayed itself through cycling into the traffic or walking calmly out in the road. Even the dogs showed no fear of traffic.
We drove through the first town (Herceg Novi) which seemed a bit shabby and dusty after the shining vistas of Dalmatia. Then we suddenly turned a corner and as Katka said - discovered we were in the Montenegran version of Switzerland by lake Geneva (Kotor Bay) and then we passed through a tunnel and discovered we were in a Montenegran version of Monte Carlo (Budva) full of Russians enjoying their holidays and then another tunnel and we were driving vertically up a mountain and we came down the other side into Ulcinj where people seemed a little bit more desperate. We could not find in the town, which made me think of a medieval version of Blackpool, a
camp until an enterprising man on a moped caught our attention by tooting his horn persistantly until we pulled over and after a short discussion he took us to a minicamp which was his backgarden.
